Arlie & Company will purchase and package 3,000 pounds of red beans and 1,750 pound of elbow macaroni for distribution in emergency food boxes
Thanks to a generous cash donation and a group of enthusiastic employees, Lane County families receiving food boxes this winter will have the makings for a healthy and hearty meal.
The donation from Arlie & Company will allow FOOD for Lane County to purchase 3,000 pounds of red beans and 1,750 pounds of elbow macaroni from Eugene-based McDonald Wholesale. Volunteers from Arlie & Company will roll up their sleeves on Monday, Dec. 19 to re-package the beans and pasta into 8,000 bags of food, which will potentially benefit as many as 8,000 Lane County families.
"This is a generous donation of money and time from Arlie & Company," said Deb Buchanan, FOOD for Lane County Food Solicitor. "And repacking product in our kitchen is a great opportunity for any organization that wants to do something together as a group. It's fun, it's easy and FOOD for Lane County gets a nutritious product that we need at a great price because were able to purchase it in bulk."

"We're excited to be able to contribute this food and our to assistance to FOOD for Lane County and the people they serve with food boxes," said Suzanne Arlie, Arlie & Company principal. "We feel good about putting our name on a tasty and nutritious product." Each package will bear a label with an ingredients list, cooking instructions and Arlie & Company's logo.
Pacific Foods of Portland has donated thousands of gallons of creamy vegetable broth to food banks across the state.
"Arlie & Company's donation of beans and macaroni is a perfect match for this broth," said Buchanan. "These three ingredients will be a welcome addition to thousands of food boxes this winter. We're glad to be receiving this much-needed source of high-protein food."
"We're looking forward to volunteering as a group," added Arlie. "This is a great way to do team building while giving back to our community. I challenge other businesses and groups to do the same."
Hole in the Wall Barbecue, another local company, will also be at FOOD for Lane County on Dec. 19 to donate lunch for Arlie & Company's volunteers.
