Released: 06/28/2007
Arlie & Company Newsletter - Summer 2007
Crescent Village placed an impressive 14th on the Daily Journal of Commerces list of the 131 TopProjects of 2007. This year marked the 11th anniversary of the TopProjects awards, which rank significant ($5 million and larger budgets) construction projects in Oregon and Southwest Washington according to construction value and peak employment.
Its exciting to be part of the list, says Project Manager Mark Miksis. To rank among such company as the Interstate 205 light-rail project and the Portland South Waterfront revitalization is an honor and reaffirms our strong belief that were creating something truly significant here.
Crescent Village is one of the few projects on the 2007 TopProjects list that is neither transportation-related nor within the Portland metro area. The Villages current construction phase, with a project cost of $53.2 million, will employ between 340 and 410 people at its peak, and upon completion, will include 102 apartments, 36,000 square feet of retail, and 64 town and row houses. At final build out, Crescent Village will include approximately 600 residences, 135,000 square feet of retail and 150,000 square feet of premium office space.
Arlie & Company has made an effort to hire local and regional consultants, contractors and suppliers throughout the development of the village. President Suzanne Arlie thinks that hiring local companies that pay living wages and provide healthcare benefits to their employees is important.
Arlie & Company is itself a family-owned business, she says. We couldnt have been as successful as we are today without the support of local businesses and community members, and we want to give back in the same way.
Suzanne continues, We believe that creating a healthy local economy, one that is fair to all, is prerequisite to achieving sustainability and true TopProject status, says Suzanne.
Micheal Roberts of Gale Roberts Construction, Arlie & Companys general contractor, adds Everything about Crescent Village - from the building materials used, to the number of jobs created - makes this a top project.
Roberts accepted the award on behalf of the development team - Arlie & Company, Rowell|Brokaw Architects and Gale Roberts Construction - at the annual Daily Journal of Commerce TopProjects award banquet in Portland in May.
According to DJC Business Editor Stephanie Basalyga, the awards have become more popular, and competitive, each year. The combined value of the 131 projects nominated this year was over $3.7 billion.
Four other Eugene/Springfield area projects made the list this year: the Gateway/I-5 interchange (#8), the new Regal Cinemas (#60), and two U of O projects, the Integrative Science Complex and the Hayward Field renovation (#66 and #102). Last year, PeaceHealths Riverbend Hospital Campus topped the list and the Tate Condominiums also received recognition.
